Modalities
Individual therapy sessions are typically 50 minutes and are delivered primarily within a cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) framework. I also draw from dialectical-behavioral therapy (DBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) as well as take a strengths-based, trauma- and health at every size (HAES)-informed approach in therapy. From a systems perspective, I think it’s important to consider the ways in with the environment or systems we are embedded in shape, influence, and affect our behavior. The type of therapy used varies depending on the presenting concern but is always evidence based. A list of modalities offered is below.
CBT, CBT-E
DBT
ACT
Cognitive Processing Therapy (for PTSD)
Adolescent Focused Therapy (for Eating Disorders)
Family Based Therapy informed (for Eating Disorders)
Parent Coaching
As an active therapist, treatment is goal-oriented, aimed at building insight, enhancing skills, and facilitating acceptance or change. Ultimately, I hope to help you create a healthier, more satisfying life in line with your values.
The frequency of sessions depends on the nature of your concern, but typically begins weekly. Following an empirically based approach, treatment is often short-term; however, more complex concerns may need longer to address. We will work together to establish the best clinical treatment plan based on your unique needs.
Some challenges require a multidisciplinary approach to treatment. I'll help connect you with other providers I know and trust when needed. This may include psychiatrists, primary care physicians, or dietitians. I'll maintain close contact with these providers to ensure we're all on the same page and offering you optimal support.
In my role as a Clinical Professor at Stanford University, I meet weekly with the Adult Eating Disorders Clinic for peer consultation. At these meetings, we support each other in thinking through challenging clinical cases to ensure we’re providing optimal treatment.
